I read and re-read the CR article and I don't think it is completely accurate. At least it is not according to my DR's and pharmacists. Neither my GP, Neurologist or Pain management DR's feel it is accurate either.
When I had a weird reaction to OXYCODONE and I wanted to change back to HYDROCODONE, I had to see my pain management DR. Changing from very strong and addictive drug to a much weaker and less addictive drug took a in person visit.
As far as post dating prescriptions, it is similar to post dating a check, it is not valid or is it legal under federal law. In my DR's own words, "You're Screwed".
All that said, there is always a work around, my PM DR said if I will call him directly, he will look up a PM DR in the area we will be in and arrange for that DR to see me and accept my PM Dr's diagnosis and issue a prescription for the 30 day supply. Fortunately after the MRI and a little adjustment to the location of my lumbar epidural, I am going on four months with little or no pain and only taking two pain pills in that time. So I am going to be okay. My DW however cannot take the Hydro or Oxycodone drugs or spinal epidurals. She receives more relief from sitting in that FlexSteel captains chair than anything else. The multiple adjustment she can make really help.
I hope I didn't step on any members toes but these are the facts as several DR's see them.
