New RV Texas Registration

I am opening this topic because I have just purchased a 5th wheel in Ohio. My wife and I are full-timing. I Belong to Escapees RV Club and have an address in Livingston Texas. We are moving our residence from Nevada to Texas. We are heading down to Texas to Register our 5th wheel and truck and to get our drivers licenses changed over to Texas. I am wondering if anyone has done this and has any advice to send our way on the best place to register in Texas. I can imagine not all DMV registration places are equal. Some are friendly and some may not be. Some may be busy and some not. Since we can choose I would like to choose the one that would be the least hassle.
  • Thank you for your post Dutch_12078. I did read the "How to become a real Texan" booklet and it did help in us deciding on Texas as our new state residence and knowing how much it would cost to register. I appreciate you input and will head down to Livingston to register our new rig.
  • The Polk County tax assessor/collector's office in Livingston does this sort of thing almost daily for Escapees. They'll walk you through the process pretty easily. Have you read through the Escapees "How to Become a Real Texan" booklet?

  • 1995brave, Thank you for you post. My residency will be in Livingston Texas. This is where Escapees club issues their permanent residency addresses. I do not believe you have to register in the same county you are residence in. I did this 10 years ago and registered in West Texas and my residence address was East Texas. The current tax rate for Livingston is %6.5. I am trying to find out the most friendly and least hassle DMV location.
  • Depends on what county you are moving to. They all have their own tax rates. Google the Texas DMV and select one where you plan to live. Some of the offices even give you days and times when they are not busy.
