Painting the inside of a 10 year old TT

I do not know if this is the correct forum to post to or not.

I have a 10 year old TT. That I have been full-timing in. I love the floor plan, but the inside is showing some wear and tear.

Has anyone paint the inside of their trailer? With what type of results?

  • We painted over our vinyl coated wall paper and it worked very well. Clean the wall and use a good primer before painting.
  • You may want to consider using a "liquid sandpaper" product to reduce/remove any gloss. A good sealing primer such as Binz may also help improve paint adhesion. As with most painting projects, prepping the surface is the biggest part of the job!
  • We recently painted our ceiling with a combination ceiling paint/primer...looks great!

Test the primer by doing a little patch. Let dry overnight, then try to scratch it.

If you can scratch it off with your fingernail or a butterknife, try a different primer. If you can't even scratch a line in it with a (metal) nail, then the primer and your cleaning job are both top-notch!

If it's somewhere in between, you can use it but the paint will wear quickly and look bad in a few years.

Another thing: Are the surfaces you want to paint actually painted (in the old color)? Are you sure they are not wallpaper, as was mentioned, or laminate, or varnished wood, or enameled metal, or plastic...? Anything other than regular paint will need special prep, and may not be practical at all.
  • Maybe you can just clean and paint. It depends on what the wall and ceiling are made of. For example, I would not want to paint over vinyl coated wall paper without special prep.
