Picked a bad time to go to Florida.

While the risk of in Florida is the highest at that time of the year you should also note that it has been ten years since a hurricane touched Florida land (Wilma 2005). While you should always pay attention to the weather, I am much more cautious(scared) of Tornado Alley in the spring, warning people away from Florida is shall we say overkill.

We left for Florida on 10/1 for a week long vacation at north beach campground in St. Augustine. We left at 6AM on the 5th due to the approaching hurricane.

You must be at Turtle Beach. You can walk across the road and eat at Turtles on the Bay. Very reasonable for our town, OK food, nice waitresses.

I wouldn't forget about the Keys but it would be prudent to wait awhile until fuel supplies restabilize. Fuel shortages even here in Naples area due to folks fleeing the east side of the state. OTOH, right now you'd probably have the south and eastbound sides of the road to yourself.

Would forget the Keys for a while as the huricane may circle back and go there!
