This seems to be getting to be a more common pitfall for SD registrants- fact is, regardless of that State's rules for establishing "residency", no private business or for that matter other Government entity is obliged to go along with it; nor will South Dakota come to one's defense if the residency is challenged.
Sounds like you'll need to look for a different insurer with more flexible rules as to physical presence.
