Proof of residency for insurance

We went full time the beginning of June and updated insurance recently. We received a letter from Wellmark of South Dakota asking for verification of residence. We have been asked to provide
1. "A valid form of id that includes your address"-no problem as we have driver's license, voter registration and automobile insurance
2. "Proof of residency that includes your residential address; for example, a recent property tax statement, property liability/casualty insurance statement, monthly utility statement, or a copy of a signed lease agreement to your residence. These documents must show your physical residential address such as a house, apartment, condominium or other such place where a person resides. A post office box or mail service without a physical address does not establish residency. (Please provide at least one of these documents.)
Not sure what to do about the second requirement. Has anyone else ran into this? What did you do?

  • Which mail service are you using in SD?

The mail service 'address' is a legal physical address.

You have a 'contract' with them for your residency.

Do you have 'full timers' insurance on your 'home'?
We had 'home' insurance (same type of policy that was on our S&B House) on our 5th wheel as it was our home.......property liability//casualty insurance plus.

Unfortunately lots of FTs have had issue with MEDICAL INS. Companies since passage of ACA (Obamacare). AND they (medical ins. co.) have their own set of rules as to what they will accept as proof even though State/Federal/IRS etc. accept/acknowledge the FTrs 'physical address'

Good. Then in your shoes I would consider a call to the insurance company asking what to do about it.

Your service providers and rates may be based on that residence.. just a guess. If so, you're likely to run into some nasty surprises when you're a thousand miles from 'home'.
  • No intention of lying. Thought we had all bases covered, as we went by the South Dakota residency requirements, but evidently that didn't cover medical insurance.

This is a time I wouldn't choose to be lying. Your insurance, which you will NEED if you crack up, could be denied if you falsified your residence. I think I'd be looking for another company.

If you're not a member of Escapees, I'd suggest it. They know all about this stuff.

  • Do you have any family that you could use as a residence address?
    Lease a room from them.
