My wife and I have talked about full timing for years now. We see four issues that must be overcome before venturing out. Some of these are stated above. Really, if you are looking at 10-15 years from now, NOW IS the time to start planning!
1: Become debt free. Owe nothing to nobody!
2: Liquidate all your physical assets, own no property except your RV rig.
3: There must be a steady source of income that will sustain you for the rest of your life.
4. In the event full timing RV does not work, there needs to be a contingency plan to return to a place of permanent residence. (wherever that may be)
All 4 of these issues may take you 15 years to get there. So, really, if you are serious about full timing, this is what you should focus on first, while you have the time.
One more bit that might help, and will give you 10 years to prepare: Downsize! Begin to downsize now! Downsize your spending habbits. Downsize your eating habbits. Downsize your 'toys', clothing, house hold furniture, pots, pans, books, tools, equipment, everything! You have the luxury of time to descope and downsize every aspect of your life and make those adjustments now so it will not be a "shock" when you are able to simply make the move from your sick-and-brick house to a 4 wheeled house!
For my wife and I, our biggest obstacle is #3 above.
FYI-- Campground sites can run from $18 a night to $100 a night, depending upon where you stay. Multiply that by 30 days, and you see the biggest obstacle. If you can afford that, the rest is easy.
