If you did experience a catastrophic heater failure, RV's are set up to (fairly) easily and quickly winterize the water lines. If you would have the availability of an air compressor, it's not too difficult to blow out the water lines to prevent the water line freeze up. Empty the water heater and water tank (if full) and leave. After the heater has been fixed, just hook up to the water and you are good to go.
