In 1999, I started planning by buying a few Fulltimer's books. Mainly which state for taxes and what jobs could be done on the road to supplement income. My parents had been fulltiming in an Alpenlite 5er for a few years. We knew we would definitely want to do the same when we could afford to retire.
But fast forward 6 years and once we had no kids in school and I was traveling with DH for his job, we wised up and decided to buy the first 5er to fulltime in. Now it's 8 years later and we are trying to decide which year to switch to working part time, so we can travel more for pleasure instead of work.
We just paid off the F450, refinanced the RV to lower the payment and could feasibly fully retire in less than 2 years. But rather than limit our traveling fund, DH may try to keep working one project a year until he's 66 or even 70, IF he wanted to.
We're already mulling over the idea of downsizing to a smaller RV in a few years to make it easier to use 30amps and pull into smaller campground spaces.
