SD vs TX residency
Both have no state income tax so why is SD more often a choice for residence for full time RVers?

That article and the 4% it refers to is the general state sales tax, which is not what applies to vehicles/RV's. The vehicle/RV tax is an excise tax at a fixed 3% as quoted above. Also, if you import your vehicle/RV from a different state where you already paid a sales tax on the vehicle purchase, you get credit (provided you saved the documentation), up to the 3% charged by SD.
