Security question

Hey Guy's, new to the forum on this end. But have been camping most of my life. In between campers at this time and starting to plan for full-time in the next 2-3 years. My question is this, seems like I will have most of my life with me on the road. How do you keep the camper secure and not lose all your things ? I already had 2 break ins and lost alot. Can't imagine what I will need for full time. How do you keep it safe from the bad guy's ?

  • I see a lot of folks "enabling" thieves like the photo posted above. They are as much a part of the problem as the the dirtbag thieves. Had a couple of guys come through a lakeside CG, one driving a pickup while his buddy emptied every site of anything that was not nailed down into the back of the truck. Almost everyone was down at or out on the lake for the day and they obviously knew it (probably locals). A couple of folks saw them but they were in and out in just a few minutes and some folks lost a lot of expensive gear. If you want to keep it, lock it up! :C
  • Never had any problems in over 40 years of RVing and now full timing. We usually stay in campgrounds or at fair grounds. We seldom lock up the rugs, grill, table, and chairs. The main thing is be aware of your surrounding and if it doesn't look or feel right then it's time to leave!

I too have been going to alot of off road places in my OFF-ROAD POPUP. Have lots of gear stowed on both the front deck of the popup and in the back of our truck bed which has a lockable folding bed cover on it.

SO far have not lost anything. I do make a big effort to keep important things to us out of sight for the most part. It seems to be the easy targets will get the most visibility.

I suspect this 2KW generator and SAT DISH in this photo might be short lived if left unattended for a long period of time even in the daylight hours. One must use alittle bit of common sense...

There is always the threat however... We have noticed alot of fellow campers always go out of their way to watch out for each other. A good cup of coffee sitting around the camp fire visiting with the neighbors goes along way...

I almost think the thief treat is worse in congested areas listening to others tell their stories...

I guess the big thing for us is to always be aware of our surroundings...

We may have been lucky, but we have never had anything sprout legs and walk off.
Yes, we do secure large expensive items like tow bar and portable satellite dome.
It would be beneficial to add your rig to your signature or profile.
