I don’t really know how to go about making the transition. Do we store some things? Do we sell our stuff? Do we give things to our kids? Do we do all the above?
Selling our house, parting with “things” we own, some for more than forty years, causes me to grieve even before it happens.
There is a major difference between having to full time in an RV and wanting to. It seems like your wife wants to so that is good. Being forced into it changes a lot of things. Nobody says going full time is easy. If you have the funds put your stuff in storage, rent you home, leave it empty for a year, let one of your trusted kids or family members live in it, etc. Then you can decide. Look at some of these webpages as they are all fulltimers and many making money as they full time.
Escapees, NuRvers, Techomania and there are many many others. 1.3 million Americans live full time in their RV. We are a mobile society. Many tell of the fear/anxiety of 'casting off' but after a few months they wondered why it was such a big deal. Many don't want to go back to a 'stick and brick' until they cannot drive anymore. It is an adventure, so is life, and you should take it that way and hit the road and realize that it is not living in a fixed home, but a mobile RV. Don't be so stuck in your ways that you kill what your wife wants to experience. Go with the flow.
