I didn't read anything in your first post that said you had to sell your home. Why not keep the home and travel for up to a year at a time? Give it 5 or 10 years and in the meantime you may have a change of mind, or modify what you now think is the end of owning a nice home somewhere.
It's not an either or proposition to me, when I can have at least one residence somewhere in the country. I may have more options in home ownership than many do, but I wouldn't be so quick to pull the trigger in getting rid of everything, and the home....
