Tires, yes again

I have a 2012 dodge mega cab, 6.7 and planning to install 4 new tires before we leave in June for a year or two. The question , right now I have m/s tires all around and should I stick with the m/s or go to a highway tire? I can see positives on both issues? Any ideas?
  • I always stick with the mud & snow tread since I never know where I'll be. And unless you go with a really aggressive tread, there's not that much of it on a normal M&S tire to make a difference to wear and noise.

  • I would opt for a highway tread unless I was planning on doing a lot of winter traveling where snow could become a factor. Also, since most of us park until a snowstorm passes by, a M/S tire should not be necessary.
  • A good quality all-season tire. You do not need mud and snow for the majority of travel. They will do good in rain and dry pavement, even a little snow won't create a problem.
  • I ordered my F350 with highway (ribbed) tires instead of the optional M&S tires. I was told they would be quieter, run cooler, and the tires would last longer.

Only 26,000 miles on them but they still look great.

  • I got rid of my OEM highway thread tires ASAP........they are useless when towing and you are on wet grass, gravel or moist dirt.

Went to a 'all terrain' type thread...not a 'mud/snow' cause I'm not towing in mud/snow'

I have been using Michelin AT2's.......60,000 miles towing heavy and changed them only because I change tires early vs worn out.
  • I never plan on being in snow in my F350, towing or otherwise. However, my OEM tires could have gotten me stuck on wet grass in 4 wheel drive!

At 20,000 miles I changed to BFG Rugged Terrain T/A LT275/70R18. They are a load range E tire, somewhat of a mud/snow design, with max load of 3,305 per tire. I have been very happy with them. Have 27,000 miles on them and they still look new.
  • I stick with highway tires. Run narrowest size available, and have weight on the truck. I carry tire chains for traction and have never used them.

I get better fuel economy and way way long miles out of the tires.
