Here's what happened with my Dad (he's 94 now and living with us)
In his 70's he was fine and travelled back and forth between California, Oregon and Indiana every year on a 5 month trip in his 36foot MH towing an 18ft enclosed trailer loaded with stuff.
When he turned 80 he had to have both knees replaced because he had worn out the cushioning and was grinding bone to bone on his original equipment.
He left California 3 months after the surgery in his MH to go to Indiana. Still doing well he travelled back and forth for several more years.
When he was 84 we began to notice both he and my step mom were showing signs of dementia. We had to take him off the road by 85. There were more and more unexplained dents on his car and MH. The last straw was a call from the Colorado Highway Patrol at 1 am from Vail. They had stopped him on I-70 going the wrong way, he thought he was in Oregon and it was 3PM. We let him make one too many drives and it could have been a disaster.
He still enjoys life everyday and luckily the dementia has progressed slowly so he's still aware of what's going on day by day.
He goes with us in our RV and enjoys the trips.
To me 70 is the new 60.
Maybe you could make a deal with your kids, and have them ride with you once each year on a short trip to see how you do. If they see problems then it might be time to let someone else do the driving.
