I'll try and explain this politely to our friend across the sea. Does America have a problem with gun violence? Yes we do. Is it 80 times per day? No it is not. Right now we have about 40 homicides per day in this Country and all of those are not with guns but, most are. Do we have 88.9 gun to every 100 people? I don't know if that's accurate or not, but it's probably close.
So how do we solve this problem? We probably can't. At this point for the US, strict gun control will probably only make the problem worse for generations to come. Guns are well built and will last for decades or maybe even centuries. Strict gun control now will only serve to disarm the law abiding population. There will still be plenty of guns left for the criminals for a few hundred years and in the meantime the law abiding population who turns in their guns will be victimized for generations. This is why most reasonable Americans are opposed to additional gun control measures.
Maybe the US wouldn't be this way but we had to fight for our freedom from a Monarch and when we won that freedom the founding fathers wanted to make sure the Country couldn't be controlled by a monarch or a dictator in the future. And so far it's worked pretty good over the last few hundred years. Seems we even had to go back and save that Country a couple of times that we won our freedom from.
