US Post Office and FedEx

Found out last Friday that FedEx can deliver to Post Offices with General Delivery or with a Post Office Box ... thought previously that they would not ...

Well, turns out that if you add the address of the Post Office in the label that is all that is needed ..

The reason we found out is that we had Amazon orders/packages stalled in the Salem Oregon office and we went there to pick it up while thinking that FedEx wouldn't deliver to Post Offices ... the manager said all we had to do was include the address of the Post Office on address label.

Sounds almost too simple a solution .. oh, Amazon picks the form of transportation for orders .. thus our travel from where are volunteering to Salem.

In the meantime we rented a Post Office (smallest one) as a means to receive mail, etc. since we are going to be here almost 6 months volunteering. Thought would pass on this little gem which had not encountered before, but will admit the World has changed in the past almost 12 years of Full-timing. Thanx for listening.
  • Every remote rural area we've been in has sent FedX via the SmartPost and DH had to pick it up himself at the USPS.

We used to use a UPS Store forwarding as our address. When RVPark couldn't or wouldn't accept pkgs, we would open a temporary box at another UPS Store. They accept all pkgs and would usually call when something had arrived.
  • Why dont you just have it delivered to where you are volunteering. FedEX will deliver virtually anywhere. There is someone contracted for a rural route where you are for sure.

Call them and ask...much simpler than messing with the PO and Amazons rules, either of which can come back to bite you.
  • Day before yesterday FedEx did call and ask for an alternative address to mail pkg to ... hoping it was delivered today to a friend's down here in Grand Ronde .. will see .. they said as long as they had a street address it was ok.
  • Years ago we had a PO box and no mail delivery to our home address. Sometimes when we thought we were getting a delivery via UPS to our home it was instead sent to the PO and then returned.

We thought that by putting both the home address and PO box number on the delivery address we would solve the problem. However if the PO box number was on the second address line the PO would return it even though they knew the box number it should go to. Very annoying. I don't know if that is still the case.
  • Whole heartedly agree with you .. it is confusing .. so are seeing if this works next order made just today.
  • That won't work with FedEx Ground. It will with FedEx Smartpost. Amazon occasionally selects the wrong one.

UPS has an equivalent service called "Surepost".

(Unless something has changed since I had a FedEx Ground package returned a couple weeks ago. )
