As long as both are reasonably healthy, I see no reason not to go.

Renting the condo...that's the iffy part. If it's critical to financing the dream, I would get real nervous. If you haven't played landlord before, don't count on it being profitable and don't be surprised if the place gets trashed. Not saying it will but it's a very real possibility.
