We just jumped in...

First, I would like to introduce our little family to the board. We are new to the board and RVing, decided to go full time due to schooling and future job opportunities. My wife works full time in Hillsboro, OR while I am completing grad school in Portland. We wanted to reduce the cost of living so we sold our home, bought a truck and trailer and have dove in head first. We are thirty something's with a pup that everyone falls in love with. We will be jumping around for the next few months as the snowbirds are in town for the summer. We're excited to see the different parks around here, eventually we would like tone able to stay in one spot for a few months at a time.

Koryl is the daughter of hippie artists who travelled the country in the 70's, 80's, and 90's from California to Florida. Matt is a Veteran of the Iraq War, born and raised in Oregon. Kota is a Lab mix, sweet little girl. Matt is getting his teaching license and well aware that there are very few jobs locally, that is why we bought our trailer.

We are open to any advice you can provide us, we did research but there is just so much to learn. I have the next six weeks to figure things out before school gets crazy.

    Have you thought about DOD schools? I know they still exist in US and abroad.

    We have been full timers for 10 years. Have run into a few traveling nurses but never a teacher.

    I see you were in the military "thank you". Do not believe there were military dependent Iraq but we do have bases all over the world with dependents. With dependents there are kids & they need teachers.

    My sis is a dental hygienist after a friend of hers kids were grown she got divorce. So she found a job in the south pacific. Along with taking care of the teeth of the people she works for she also takes care of all the people on the island. Her grandkids love spending there summer with grandma. So think they would need teachers also.

    I know it not RV living but they are traveling jobs.

    As a full-timer my only advice to hit the road and you will figure it out.

    You can always come here for specific advice. Also you can go to escapee's and iRV2 forums.

    Thank u for your service. Oregon gives veterans with a service connected disability a special camping pass that allows ten free camping days a month with only five allowed in a given location.

    Matt thank you for your service and welcome home.

    Lots of great information on these forums. As your wife already knows full timing is a great way to live a nomadic life.

    I know right now you are looking at grad school, living in your trailer and then getting a job afterwards. Let me pass on to you the best advice I ever got in the military. Use your service time by continuing in either in the Reserves or National Guard. You don't know where you will be in 30 years but just the medical insurance is worth it. And the retirement pay isn't bad either.

    I hope both of you enjoy your time on the road. Maybe we'll see you on down the road.

    I didn't find living in an RV full time much different than in a StixnBrix. DH still gets up early, goes off to the jobsite. But now he can come home for lunch and we have more together time. Then within a few months, job finishes and we are off to a new RV Park.

    Other than looking for parks that have lower cost monthly rates, I only have one other piece of advice. A small place can feel closed in if you are lazy. When you use something, put it back or you'll be tripping over it.

    Good luck in your endeavors. My son, DIL and granddaughter just moved to Hillsboro - beautiful country.
