where do you winter?

Yuma Foothills. You cannot beat the winter weather

We tried Florida, TX, the MS coast, and AZ. We ended up spending our winters in AZ in a small town (Bouse) about 25 miles from Quartzsite.

Regarding Valley Fever it can be serious if you have a weakened immune system, but for most people it is a non issue. The doctor we used while there said that if people go there for a few years most will catch it but not even notice or just think they have flu.
Once you have had it it rare to ever have symptoms again.

In ten years of spending part or all of the winter there we knew one guy that had a real problem with it. His immune system was compromised because of diabetes. It put him in the Parker hospital for 11 days. He was successfully treated with a drug that kills it, recovered in a few weeks and never had a problem after that and went back to Bouse for 7 more years.

We stay in Central Florida as well, I'm not saying it's the end-all place to go it just works for us. We have several friends here in Canada that are planning to start snow-birding soon and they all have different ideas on what they plan to do and I'm looking forward to seeing how they make out. I originally planned to go to Texas but I was persuaded to go to Florida by a well seasoned friend and I'm glad I listened to him.

We stayed many years in Casa Grande, AZ just south of Phoenix, but last year we stayed in Rockport, Texas. The night time temperatures are warmer and the fishing is better than in the desert. Going back to Rockport this winter.

We spent last year on the Pacific coast, started in very northern Oregon and spent 7 weeks in the state , can get a little cold but beautiful country

Another for Central Florida. The weather is fine, you may get a cool night or two but nothing drastic. There is a lot to do and a lot less traffic than on the coast. We have friends and relatives to visit on the coast and are always happy to get back to the center (Except for Orlando). You only need to decide what it is that is important to you and then go for it. We are all want different things so take each response with a little grain of salt :)

If you plan on staying in the Southwest... Google Valley Fever... Valley fever is caused by Coccidioides, a fungus that lives in soil in the southwestern United States and parts of Mexico.

I've had conversations with some that were not bothered by it at all and others that came down with it and to this day, could not get over it.

Not all places in the Southwest have a problem with it.... so just make sure that you don't settle into an area with it.

Arizona. Try Quartzsite, and nearby cities with full hookup sites. THey also have plenty of dry camping for those waiting on the next SS check to show up, and trying to spend a few weeks saving up for more gas.

Tucson has some great places to visit, and are a little cooler, with higher elevation. Benson is even higher elevation, and would be cooler in October and April, a great time to visit that location. Tombstone and Lake Patagonia are other local places to visit, along with the museum in Tucson.

Laughlin NV has several casino's and Riverside RV park is very nice for a short visit. Across the river is Bullhead City, a affordable city where all the Casino people who work there live.

Grand Canyon is a wonderful place to visit, and the dry camping inside the park is great views. Just outside the park is a full hookup site. Across from that campground is a huge screen theater that you can see high quality films.

There is so much of this country left for me to see.

We wintered in several places as fulltimers for 10 years. But our favorite was Rockport, TX. There are several RV parks there at reasonable cost if you pay by the month. We actually liked Lagoons RV Resort best because it was across the street from a city park with good walking trails. We also got our mail general delivery and the post office was across the street the other way from the RV park. In addition, down there they call you "Winter Texans" not GD snowbirds like we were actually called in Arizona.

Central Florida. Like it so much we moved from Calif and bought a place on a lake.
