Winter Travel, who does it?

We've travelled in 49 states and love every minute. But we have stayed put in Florida during winter months, Nov - March, in one spot. We've given some thought to South Texas or over as far as SanDiego during winter. Are there very many who do much moving around in RV during winter months?

  • We won't be moving, but I refuse to winterize our motorhome this year.
It's just todepressing to render the bus cold and dead for the season.

We do hope to get out during christmas break, as wellas spring break.

The rest of the time, the rig is parked in a seasonal site, no water (other then the 100 gallons in our tank), but do have reliable 50 amp power.

So far, we've had overnight temps as low as 17, but daytime always above freezing.

Our rig has a heater in the wet bay, and I've added a couple 150w bulbs on thermocubes to help keep things toasty. Duct taped 2 of the 3 inlets in the lower fridge vent. And renting a 200lb propane tank to make sure we never run out.
I'm keeping both furnaces set at 42 degrees. We'll see how much propane this uses, not sure I care.
  • Year before last we moved around Florida and loved it. We stayed in one place last year. Won't do that again - It has no appeal to us. This year we are heading south - This weekend I hope - and will be traveling New Mexico, Arizona, and San Diego.
  • We never stayed put in the winter while traveling...one year we went to Seattle for Christmas then headed south into Texas and on through all the gulf coast states all the way to Key West by March. The only places we stay at for more than a week are DH's hometown or at home.
  • We've been moving for almost 8 years, summer and winter. The longest we've ever stayed in one place is 3 months. Arizona and the Texas gulf coast give you a lot of room to move with good weather all winter.
  • We travel in our 5th wheel to southern California (San Diego) although it can be pretty rainy there in January. The the last 4 years ended up in La Paz, BCS, Mexico for warm climate.
  • Sure, folks move around all winter long along the southern states. I-10 is the best interstate for getting from one side of the country to the other. Any higher and you'll have snow. No problem at all in moving around.
  • We rarely stay put for longer than 2 weeks.

Stayed one time for 4 months in FL (Dec to April) while sister recouped from back surgery. Couldn't stand it!!
