Workcamping experience ?

Hello my fellow lovers of camping. MY wife and I are working hard to have everything sold by December. She retires October 31. And we hope to be on the road for one year minimum.

My question is about workcamping. I noticed a few job options want references, Resume and so on. What I have now is linked to my current and past work experience having nothing to do with Workcamping. Is it acceptable to let a potential Workcamp job know that I am just starting. How did or do you all handle this question?

Thank you,
Dave
  • A paid site should be the minimum. Workcamping isn't paying to work for somebody else.
  • Depends on the park. But as for Oregon state parks your only obligated for 30 days at a time. Free full hookup site and some of the best rangers in the world to work with.

So normal home duties ? My wife and I helped 2 churches start. I setup their security ministry also helped with other duties around the church. I guess I could focus on stuff like that. I never thought about it that way.

I am worried about volunteering without some type of pay. Free site would be great.

  • When I first started workamping, I emphasized my previous activities that would benefit the campground or park. Cut grass? Yep. Weed eat? Yep. Minor electrical and plumbing repairs around the house? Yep. Work with people? Yep. Ability to learn new tasks? Yep. Plays well with others? Maybe the most important quality.
  • Instead of looking for paid jobs you might volunteer at a few places. That will gain you the experience necessary for paid jobs, and build a resume that fits.
