A cancellation fee or a transfer fee is common with extended service contracts. Usually the fee is deducted from any refund due and you refunded the balance remaining. I have never heard of an instance when you were actually charged a fee to cancel that exceeded the remaining balance. I seriously doubt that told they would charge your credit card a cancellation fee. That being said, just let it expire, like others have said.
