Assistance Cost Question

Last year in May my MH collapsed a road over a drain culvert. I had to be winched out. Damage was minimal (to coach) and GS service was great. My question is about the responder. I know you don't control them. After GS arranged the service the tow company called me and said that they have a 3 hour minimum and was I willing to pay the extra $250 for the extra hour. What am I going to say sitting at an angle roadside with my RR side in a hole? Of course I'll cover it. Was that an appropriate request from the tow company or should I have called GS back and had them handle it. Not counting the drive it took them about 15 minutes to get me out. GS paid 498, I paid 250. Good afternoon!
Thanks

  • gemert,

Let's see what we can do about a possible reimbursement. Please send a private message with the receipt.

"For each disablement event under this agreement, member is
entitled to a maximum of two hours of either Towing Preparation
Services or Recovery Services. Towing Preparation Services
include any of the following services: winch-out, extrication services
and preparation for towing. Recovery Services include winchout
or extrication services to allow the vehicle to proceed safely
under its own power. However, if disablement is caused solely by
an accumulation of snow by any means, the member will not be
entitled to any Towing Preparation Services or Recovery Services in regard to such disablement."

    Thanks,
    Stacy

I believe that your call would be considered an "accident". Be thankful anything was covered. Normally, such a claim would be with your insurance company, not your roadside assistance provider.

I believe you are right. He should be lucky and not say anything

Too late obviously! You may be right but I wasn't moving at the time. Parked and I didn't consider it a reportable crash. With 36 years in law enforcement I would not have done a crash report for an incident like this on private property. I may do a info type report to make the reporter happy but it does not meet the criteria for a crash in Florida. Not saying you guys aren't right! I once ran over a retread on the interstate that ripped my generator exhaust off. Coachnet did not cover and refused to assist. I dumped them even though that probably was a reportable crash. That's why I am with GS, they are easier to get along with and more responsive to the customer.

Why did you wait 10 months to ask?

In the middle of a trip, just wasn't that important at the time. I don't expect a reimbursement, just info for a next time if there is one.
