campgrounds dropping out

so i'm on the C2C site today looking around and notice a lot of Campgrounds on the eastern states seem to have dropped out of the program Pa had like 8-9 now 3, Maine had like 5-6 just wondering if its still worth the upgraded membership I bought into?? didn't really look hard at Midwest or west those are still a few years away for me to visit but hoping this isn't a trend???
  • Yes we have been to some in both states and use it when we travel south and west, most are nice campgrounds,we are not far from the border.

Plenty of non-membership campground out there.....enjoy them ! I personally think these "membership" campgrounds (condo-campgrounds, etc.) have been and are a rip-off. The last time (years ago) I was approached by one of these places, it was $5000 "entry fee" but camping (limited number of nites in any place) for a buck a nite. Or something like that.

For 5 grand I can do alot of camping without these guys.

    But...to each their own.

We have been to a lot of Non Membership campgrounds over the past 20 years the places we liked to go are now charging $80- 100 / night heck just to name 1 in your state Big Timber Lake for a full hook up site it's $92 /night in july. use to be around 65-70 a few years ago so that chews up 5k pretty quick. there are some others out there for 35-50 /night but we like to have pools and entertainment at places we go. like you said to each their own and like I tell everyone IT'S ONLY WORTH IT IF YOU USE IT! we use it almost exclusively have it for 4 years and camped approx. 30-40 nights a year it paid for itself already but we didn't pay 5k it was less. also the limit on nights is 14-21 depending on park and time of year.
after that long i'm ready to move on

Membership campgrounds can be a good value. You can get memberships for way less than 5K. I only need to stay once a year to get my money's worth.
    I have very little invested.
