While both are social media, there is a BIG difference between forums like this and FB, Twitter, etc.
Forums like this are for folks to chat, discuss, and interact in conversation.
FB, Twitter, etc., are about telling family, friends, the world, about you and your interests, beliefs, desires, etc. They are far more one-sided. They are for spreading short bursts of information, etc., not for discussion.
When was the last time you saw a conversation like this on FB outside a private message?
While they may be "antiquated", forums like this offer the chance to have conversations rather than soundbites.
As for being opinion based, all social media is opinion based. There are more opinions floating around FB and Twitter than anywhere else.
This forum has its place and from the activity seen here, it does not seem to be hurting due to a lack of change.
