Considering renewal for 10th year (some questions)

We have had $112.95 GS/Roadside Assistance plan for 9 years now, though thankfully we have never had to use it, yet. It's time to renew, or not, and after reading all of this years GS mailings on the subject I had a few clarifying questions.

1) One thing I've liked about the GS/RA option is that it covers all drivers in the family and 'all vehicles'. Based on the membership benefit brochure under 'vehicles non covered provision' it lists utility trailers but no mention of car trailers. Based on that I'd hoped my open-deck car trailer was covered.

However, it looks like I have to purchase the $139.95 platinum plan in order to have the car trailer covered? This is a bit disappointing as after reviewing the additional benefits under the platinum plan I find the only one that might be applicable to us would be coverage of said car trailer. None of the other benefits on the platinum plan are attractive to us in a practical sense.

2) Lets say my fully loaded car trailer (may be loaded with a non-running vehicle) smokes a wheel bearing while on the road.
Where does GS/RA tow the car trailer to for repair, an RV shop, non-RV trailer repair shop, general mechanic shop?

3) Under the same, 'Vehicles not covered by this program' disclaimer for the standard $112.95 plan it lists,'Vehicles in an off-road area'. Which is defined as, "An off-road area is defined as an area OFF of any of the following: hard-packed or graded dirt public road, paved street, driveway, parking lot, highway, freeway, expressway or adjacent shoulder".

Once or twice a year I travel to a piece of private property to camp for the weekend, sometimes with the TT, sometimes with the truck only. Said property is accessed by x miles of gravel forest service roads, and then Y miles of gravel private property roads. Sounds like I'm out of luck as GS/RA would not respond should my truck breakdown there? And upgrading to the platinum plan would do nothing to remedy this situation?

4) It occurs to me while evaluating the different options for roadside assistance available these days it might be beneficial for the consumer to know who the RA company contracts with to provide the actual on-the-ground services when needed. It may be that RA company Y has a more robust list of service providers in my more frequently traveled locations than RA company X. Does GS/RA provide such information?

Thanks
Wayne

  • Spend the addition money and get Platinum PLUS Road Side Assistance.
Then if you are disabled, will tow you 100 miles.
  • Hello Wrace,

Thank you for your post. So to answer your questions in order:

1.) Standard Good Sam Roadside Assistance does not cover Car Trailers, it does however cover 2 wheel dollies that are designed to tow cars. If you upgrade to Platinum not only would it provide coverage for your car trailer, as well as any vehicle you are in, rented, borrowed, or owned. Standard Coverage only protects one RV, and all household vehicles.

2.) We will tow it an unlimited amount of miles to the nearest professional repair facility that is capable and willing to make repairs. Where we will tow you ultimately depends on where you are located at the time of your disablement. We have a in-depth network of qualified repair centers across the Country.

3.) In answer to your question about being off road, in general no towing service nationwide will provide service to you for extreme off-road location. However as long as you meet the requirements. We will always send service, however there are circumstances where you would be responsible for paying for that service. So if you are off the beaten path while we may not pay for the service, we will not leave you stranded.

4.) We have over 40,000 providers in our network, however we cannot provide a list of our providers. This is mainly due to contractual obligations.

    I hope this information helps.
