Cover or NO Cover for storage

Just purchased a new 2018 Thor Four Winds 24S, my question is to cover or not cover for outside winter storage in the Northeast?

If cover, any ideas? I am nervous of rub marks during a Nor'easter.

  • Thanks for the input. I think I will definitely cover, now to find the perfect cover.

they are designed to be outside, aren't they ?

do you cover your car ? :)

Up here in New England, as a matter of fact yes I cover my wife's little Miata that is not driven in the winter.

Keep in mind where people are - in the Northeast, campers are usually "put away" for 4+ months every winter.

I cover ours. Keeps all that snow and ice from creeping into every nook and cranny, and keeps the camper clean. Most people in my area cover their campers over the winter.

Make sure ALL grommets / tie down points are used, to help prevent movement and flapping of the cover in the wind. Some people put extra rope over the top of the TT to help keep the cover from moving.

My TT is 14 years old now, looks fine being covered every winter.

  • For previous posts on this popular subject search this Forum for `RV cover' and read on. Perhaps limit your search to the type of RV ie. TT or fifth-wheel, etc.
We cover with a Sunshield tarp as I have stated many times.

    I covered once.

If you haven't done it once, I don't think you can really appreciate how difficult it is to get a cover on and off.

In addition to some cosmetic rub marks that hopefully won't really cause significant damage to the finish, having the cover shift around a bit in the wind can wear holes in the cover too.

Now I don't bother.......and take it to a "truck wash" place each spring for a professional wash.

I like to run engine and generator every couple of weeks and move it a foot or so to help prevent tire flat spots. That is hard to do with a cover in place.
  • one of those metal half bldg,s would be nice, lets air in sun, snow ,rain off. covers work but you,ll get some rub marks, keeping the sun ,weather off is best. you spent a nice chunk on the rv now a little more will protect it for meney years.
  • I choose a cover but am far away from you. Can't rub areas be protected?
