First cold call

Been a member for several years and received our first cold call his morning from Travel Resorts of America (coast to coast affiliate). Caller ID came up with a local area code and with a persons name (Laiesha Smith). Trying to "give away" 15 days of free camping for the Sycamore Lodge. She asked me if I had an RV. (Why is she calling me if she wasn't sure if I had an rv? After all, she knew my name.). I said yes. She then asked what type. I told her she should already know that. She said she wasn't with camping world, but an affiliation and didn't have that information. Which tells me she got my name and number trough CW and knew I owned an rv. So why ask me if I own one, when you already know it? I told her I wasn't interested. She asked why I wasn't interested in free camping. I told her because I would have to use it during the week. She said it wasn't true and that I could use it anytime. I told her that was a different story from what I was told about the 30 "free days" we got when we bought our rv. She questioned me if it was with sycamore lodge and some places in Ohio. I told her yes and with their sister place in Gettysburg. She said yes it was the same company. I told her we weren't interested and that was the end of it. I know it's a sale ploy. To get you in and you have to sit through their presentation and blah blah blah, which we are not interested in.

Just a message to C2C. Change it up some. Teach your telemarketers to not look like dumb butts or be defensive. Rather than ask me if I have an rv and what kind (which they already know and the kind does not really matter), tell us that you are affiliated with CW right off with the conversation and that you are representing an rv resort membership club and would like to give away some free camping........I mean seriously, even if you didn't know what type of rv I had, would it make a difference? Is there a difference to you if I have a class a or whether I have a casita? Are you going to charge me differently? Are you going to turn your nose up to e casita? I doubt it. Get to the point and stop with all the small talk that doesn't make a difference. Oh yeah, put your name on the caller ID and stop having people's names or have them using their own phones.

See folks, I am not always a CW apologist. :)

I would almost bet that was a Marketing call form Sycamore Lodge and not C2C per se.

C2C doesn't own any CGs. They are just an affiliate program

One has to buy into a 'Home Park' that is a C2C affiliate in order to buy a C2C Affiliate Membership.

    C2C doesn't do marketing calls..........Home Parks do.

Not defending ANY marketing calls.....just providing info.
Travel Resorts of America is trying to get you to 'buy' into their park(s)

It was travel resorts of America who is affiliated with coast to coast as it says on their website. It's all the same thing basically. Just different ways to access it all.

Except C2C doesn't do marketing calls
Home parks DO. Whether they are affiliated with C2C, RPI, AOR, ROD doesn't much matter..the Home Park is doing the marketing calls not the affiliate

Doesn't matter,..it's all the same. She even mentioned other parks within the system. She mentioned travel resorts of America. They handle more than one park.

  • I am immune to those calls since I am over most of their age limits for eligibility, you have to be under 75 yrs of age. That lets me out, I guess old money is not accepted. Suits me fine because I don't plan on ever taking up their free offer. Read the fine print, its there.

Any more, if a name I don't have in my contacts comes up, or a number I don't recognize, I don't answer it. My phone is for MY convenience, not to be a marketing tool for some company that I don't want to do business with anyway.

We thought it was one of our daughters friends. Appeared to be a local number with the local area code. We are within a couple hours of sycamore.

  • I knew there was a reason I had a magic Jack instead of a regular phone. No Robo calls here.
  • Years ago, we use to take advantage of those three day four night freebees both with our rv and also with those time share companies. An hour and a half of siting and listening was a small price to pay. Don't do it anymore.

We typically don't even answer our home phone due to all the robo calls. We put our number on the don't call list, but it seems that doesn't do much good. We are even contemplating getting rid of our home (hard line) phone.

Waiting for the robo calls to hit our cell phones....

    Ron

ps... never heard them referred to as a "cold call"!
  • IF I should automatically answer a phone and it's a telemarketer, I interrupt and inform them that "I don't buy, sell, or trade with telemarketers -- it's a policy". Then, because I have caller ID, and if I'm able to GET the right name/number, I write it down. Too many calls from one and I can GUARANTEE them, I'll not be buying from them or their affiliates. So, yes, beware Campingworld.....you can't convince me you're not losing more people than what you're gaining.
