My personal opinion: you will never be satisfied with any roadside assistance since you did not want to have a problem in the first place. It ruins a day or two of vacation. It puts you in a bad mood. What did you ever do to deserve this!!!!
Therefore: pay the dues and take your choice. I had AAA for countless years, since I was 16, but recently two really poor service experiences involving family members turned me off to AAA. Then I had Coachnet for a year. When I needed help on the 101 in Washington they could not find anyone to help me. After many hours of call-backs they finally sent a retired building contractor who works part time in the campground I was parked in. REALLY.
I now have GoodSam. They responded adequately, not great but adequate, for a flat tire on my family car.
If you don't need Road Side Service it is nice to have one of the above to call. If and when you do need service, it is nice to be able to call one number and EVENTUALLY get help. The programs are not that expensive, they give peace of mind, and hopefully you will never need that type of service.
