Free dumping at CW! But poorly designed dump station.

Just found out after searching around my area that camping world offers free dumping for Good Sam members.

That's great as there are no truck stops locally with dumping stations and the local campgrounds want you pay a full overnight price for just pulling in and using their dump station. The nearest State campground with a dumping station (only charges for a day pass) is almost a 70 mile round trip.

Used the Syracuse NY CW dump station for the first time yesterday. Free is great but the dump station was installed incorrectly and it is actually a covered metal box that sticks up almost 10 inches above the pavement level. Unless your valve is a foot or more above the pavement you can't just dump through the hose without letting the hose fill, picking up the hose up to empty it out, and repeating the process one hose full at a time until the tank is empty. Can't get a good flush that way. You might want to design a proper dump station for any CWs in the future.

Don't get me wrong, free is great, just hate messing with the hose risking a spill after the valve is opened.

  • Thanks for the heads up about the Camping World. Albiet there is a forum for Camping Work, But not to worry the own both!!
    Hopefully they will fix it.

    Smidge OT but related:
Pick up one of these and keep it on board for moments like that!

I stayed at a CG where the sewer opening pipe was 12 inches off the ground Yup, 12 full inches above ground.

CG owner got tired of campers driving over the sewer caps and busting them. So he thought he'd fix that by putting in new sewer pipes that were 12 inches off the ground!

The Sidewinder comes in handy. I actually use it all the time now. folds flat for storage, goes around obstacles.

NO more picking up the middle of a sewer hose ever again to get it to drain. fully adjustable for what ever height you need! AND get a Rhino sewer hose.

    By at Walmart. :W

How low are you? Could you run RV up on 4X4's to get enough clearance? Would a macerator work? Macerator would pay for itself quickly as opposed to your 70 mile trip to another site.

I bet CW knows about the problem as they don't list that store as having a RV Dump site in their store directory.
  • Well! Of ALL the Camping World posts I've read on these forums, I must say, "This one is a first!"

Oh and a note for Stacy:
Why should you need a person's name and contact number to look into a problem like this ?? The problem should be rather obvious to local management regardless of who reports it.......right ???

The obvious is not always obvious. :h

But the stock canned scripted reply ALWAYS is. :R

A classic post complaining about a free service

ANY unoccupied campsite with a sewer connection functions quite nicely as a dump station. :S

I assume that all of the connections in the whole park are not made that way.

It's not a campground. It's a Camping World RV store. There is only one dump station.
