Good Sam confusion at Camping World
We bought items today at Camping World, Springfield, MO, and when checking out we handed the checker our Good Sam card. She entered the number, then called us by some name we'd never heard of. Seems our number (which we've had for almost ten years) was in the system under a "John Doe." She checked us out under John Doe's name and number and gave us the phone number to call to straighten it out, which we called when we got back to the RV.
After annoying commercials and a long wait for a representative (that's a whole 'nother issue), the rep said it was impossible...couldn't happen. But after conferring with his supervisor he informed me that our Good Sam Club membership number was the same as John Doe's Good Sam Roadside Assistance number. So, now we have John Doe's name and his Roadside Assistance number. Don't think he'd be too happy about that.
With all the possible numeric/alpha combinations that can be used, why should there be duplicates for any of the Good Sam service organizations?
Makes me wonder who is looking at a Camping World receipt with my name and Roadside Assistance number on it.
I cancelled our Good Sam membership. Now that I know how the system works, I'll cancel Roadside Assistance and Travel Assist. I don't trust corporate to handle my personal information.
