Good Sam Trip Planner

Planning a trip on the Trip Planner from PA to Florida. I have plenty of time so I want to avoid 95.I planned a trip using Rt's 30, 15, 29, 220, 1, 52, than 95. Driving directions on Trip Planner agree with this route. When I download the trip onto the RVND 7730 it takes me Rt's 30, 15, 29, then onto I85, I77, I26, then onto 95. I switched the GPS to car mode thinking there may have a restriction somewhere that it didn't want me to take the motorhome but got the same results.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks
Mike

  • I just want to take a slower paced road. But the problem is that Good Sam Trip Planner is of no use if I cant move my preplanned trip from it to my GPS and have my GPS follow it exactly.

  • What parts of I95 are you trying to avoid? Most of it, or just the DC metro area?

If its just the Baltimore and DC metro area, I would suggest US30 to US15S, follow that to US17 which drops you on I95 south of the DC area. If you take US29 further south it is not bad at all but it does take you South by South West into NC, from there I would pick up I74 an dlink back up with I95 north of Florance, the alternate is I85 to I77 to I26 and drop back onto I95 near St. George and continue south.

Be aware that US15 is 2 lane from Point of Rocks MD, until Leesburg, VA and then back to 2 Lanes from Leesburg until you combine onto US29 South of Gainsville, VA. Though I would not try to link up with US29 prior to that. From there south US29 is 2 lanes or more with the only real congestion point being Charlottesville, VA. From there through Danville, VA is pretty smooth sailing with few lights and traffic to deal with. I have not been down past Danville on 29 in several years to comment on that.
  • I have the waypoints set on the Good Sam Trip Planner. If I have to add additional waypoints to the GPS what good is the Trip Planner.
  • Adding more waypoints is pretty much your only option. Look at what the GPS is doing and you can figure out where you need to add a waypoint. Put it into the GPS to see if the changes get what you want, if not add more points. You may have to do this several times.
  • I'd like to know how to get the GPS to follow the route that I planned on the Good Sam Trip Planner. I already set waypoints to get the route I wanted but the GPS is not following the route.
  • What kind of suggestions do you want? Routing? Ways to change the GPS to the route that you want?
I would suggest that you drive the route that you want to go, and let the GPS keep recalculating your route.
Or put in a town as a via point that is on the route that you want to drive and the GPS will put in the correct route.
