It is cheaper for you to be able to get the tire yourself and have it doe yourself at a shop. But you have to think about what the additional cost is paying for. Of course you got the tire cost. Then you do have the time of finding the tire. Yes you can do this on your own, but someone else is doing it and there are costs for that. Then you have the cost of whoever is taking the call to replace your tire to go to the location and get the tire and en come out to you. Then the costs of mounting that tire on the side of the road there. It can be expensive when you to have someone do it. Just think about those with motorhomes that don't carry spares. Many of them can't. And even if they could, they do not have the equipment to change the tire. Their costs are way more expensive. Yes its by choice of theirs.
That's why I pay them a premium. For the service, not the extortion.
That's the whole point here. You Pay for the service for say tire changes, lock-outs etc......But if they charge you for EVERYTHING at an inflated cost, then what is the point of having the service in the first place.
You are buying a type of insurance policy. You hope you don't need it , but when you do, your glad you have it. That's what your paying for.
Good Sams is banking the money, in hopes that the money collected outweighs the money being spent on service claims.
The problem in this case is that I got a personal shopper who feels I have an American Express Black card (no limit).
IN the example I gave comparing ERS response to AAA response.
You can obviously tell who was offering/thinking of the better or alternate solution(s). Even if ERS offered to send someone out to drive me 5 miles with my shredded tire to get it changed out and back to my trailer so I can put it back on. That's a least a reasonable solution and service.
Don't forget. You are PAYING for a SERVICE that they are suppose to provide. Your $100.00+ a year is going for something and that's not just a friendly voice on the phone. It's supposed to be Emergency Roadside Service (Extortion free).
