RE: Good Sam and junk mail. I have expressed vehemently that EVERY Opt Out box be checked, and yet "insurance" junk mail slips through. I'm a member, I can check the web site if I really want the insurance.
But, for the most part, I fought the junk mail and I now have it under control.
The last time I moved, instead of checking the "permanent" box on the forwarding card, I checked the "Temporary" box and made the date 11 months and 29 days.
Little trick I learned. If you check "Permanent" your address is given to the Post Offie's National Change of Address service. I learned this when my sister used to work for a major junk mailer. I almost had a cow when she told me! But if you mark "temporary," your address is not provided to National Change of Address service.
The one time when this might be a problem to you (checking the "Temporary" box) is if you have a delayed Tax Return check. Then you might not get it. The IRS uses those envelopes that say in the corner "Address change requested" or something like that. I'm not sure how that process works, but if you check "temporary" then that process won't work. But risk you take to get out of junk mail.
You can file restraining orders on junk mailers. I've done it. This is the form: https://about.usps.com/forms/ps1500.pdf Doesn't take long to fill out, but you have to enclose the entire mailing you got. That may cost you some postage. If you take this form to a local post office, they may balk and say you can't file it. Instead, send it to the New York address. That's what I did. Even though the form is for.... "ahem" type of mail..... there was a Supreme Court decision in the 1970's that said the Postal Service cannot determine for you what is, or isn't, offensive. So, if that gardening catalog has those tomatoes and zucchini arranged in a way that offends you............
I bought a new RV two years ago. I have noticed that within two years of buying an RV (or any car) you get deluged with 'extended warranty' junk mail. I'm bracing for that any time now..... However, I have filed so many Form 1500's to jillions of warranty companies that if they see my name they may decide to skip and go to the next one. I'm hoping......
And for anyone who dares to make the comment, "You have too much time on your hands......" all I can say is..... I'm happy to fight the battles that no one else can.
One small step. Just like the starfish. http://www.esc16.net/users/0020/FACES/Starfish%20Story.pdf
