Joining Good Sam on a campsite (since we're from Europe)?

Hi!

We will be going on a (rental) RV trip through the north-east part of the US this summer and would like to become a Good Sam member. Since we live in Europe, we rather join on our first Good Sam campsite, but is that possible? If so, do we get the membership card and discounts right away?

If not, what would be the best way to join from home? Creditcards are available, so paying shouldn't be the biggest problem, but getting the membership card in time could be...

Tnx, Robert

  • I don't know if you are aware that Good Sam discounts are only good at Good sam private RV parks. they are not honored at State Parks and federal/national/forest or other county/city parks. just so you know

    Hi Robert,

To answer your question, if you join the Good Sam Club at a Good Sam Park you will receive a temporary membership card that you can use right away.

Also, wanted to let you know that if you rent your RV from Camping World RV Rental you'll receive a complimentary 60-day Good Sam Club membership. You'd receive a temporary card to use immediately during the free 60-day membership.

    Regards,
    Good Sam Club Team

As trop-a-cal said, plan your route first before deciding if joining a club will be worth it.

Keep asking for ideas and opinions on these forums. Make sure you post what kind of RV you are planning on renting when you ask questions - most rent Class C. That will help us to give better ideas and advice.

    Have fun in the planning!
  • rather than Good Sam, which is really a waste of money, consider Passport America which gives 50% discount on campgrounds. www.passportamerica.com
  • You can buy the camp grouping directory on Amazon. State parks are always full but private parks are almost never full. We don't make reservations and there is all ways room for our 34' TT. Read the park directory and if you find a place you rant to go and you know when you'll be there give them a call, but forget about state parks or parks on the Atlantic in the summer.
  • The Northeast is full of independent RV parks, many have been booked for over a year and few have discounts. Plan your route first, and then plot the places you want to see and then find the sites to stay. You then will know if they are members by their adds. Your RV has to be not bigger than 30 foot for some sites many state run that are limited in size and many times in very rural areas. Finding a central located site and doing day trips will make your tour easier, as driving to many in an RV may be a challenge as some are just a few hours to see. Routing should be done with height and vehicle class restrictions which are listed on state sites for the routes. Once you have the tour plan, many on this site have been there and will advise you about the details of RV sites. Joining some federal and state travel passes will give you discounts too. Buss tours also are available for some destinations that are day trips and some package overnight and meals. That would be best for urban sites like Boston, NYC and Museum trips, that allows the RV to be in a one place to return to and may get you better rates for the RV stay as weekly rates are discounted.
  • If I'm not mistaken, you have the opportunity to print off a membership card right away! If I'm mistaken, someone will jump in here and correct me.

You might also look at Passport America which can be a better deal than Good Sam in some cases:

    Passport America

You'll get back your fee in the first 50% off night that you have at a campground, or RV park.
