Memphis Towing
I had a situation in Memphis that required towing my 39' DP. WE were parked at Graceland during a heavy storm, and when we got back we had numerous transmission (Allison 3000mh) error messages and the coach would not shift out of neutral. We called for help and were told a tow truck would be there. Actually, the follow up call came to us before the tow, but only by a few minutes. After getting us on the hook, the Star Towing driver informed us that he could not undo the drive axle and that we would need to sign a release for any damage that may be caused. This was our first ever tow, and I didn't know any better. We were only going about 3 miles. He took us to an AAMCO dealer!!! I asked if there was a shop better equipped for our MH, and he said he didn't know and had another call to answer. AAMCO was nice people, but in over their head trying to get schematics faxed or emailed from HQ. Meanwhile, I found G & W Diesel Services, and their service manager Jason was able to diagnose the problem, bring out a new ECU, program and install it and get us back on our way. However, we spent 2 nights "camping" at the AAMCO waiting.
Too late to make a long story short, but PLEASE, advise your call center NOT to have 39' DPs towed to a corner AAMCO, and advise Star Towing of the need to properly prepare a coach for towing, even if it requires a little more effort. Lastly, I highly recommend G & W Diesel for performing work in the mid-south area
