so shouldn't they have towed your vehicle the 27 miles? just checking, in case we are ever in that situation.

No, not for the Platinum or the regular plan. Only the Platinum + (Plus) will allow you to choose where to take it up to 100 miles. Platinum will tow it to the nearest approved service center, same as regular. All the plans do unlimited (mileage and dollar) towing, but the keyowrds are "to the nearest service center".
