This is a common marketing practice: offer a lower rate for the first year so the customer can see if he/she likes the service. Hopefully they will and then renew at the full price. Magazines are the other that comes to mind. Of course the other way to look at this is to be thankful for the lower price rather than resentful of the full price. It's all in how you approach life.
