New Tire vs Re[air

getting ready for a 4000 mile trip (Sprinter 2500) and don't have a spare just a tire repair kit w/compressor. has anyone ever had GS come out with a new tire vs repairing a flat tire? wonder if a flat occurs on a Sunday and they cant get a new tire...

  • Always carry a spare and tools to change. Never had road service. In fact, I've changed a few for unfortunate RV'ers on the roadside (if they had a spare to change).

Changing a flat is grade school easy. Hydraulic jack, some wood blocks, screw driver to pop the cap and a 4 way lug wrench.

I happen to be a good scout, always preparred.

I'm a good Scout, always prepared.to carry a good plug kit and compressor to, but if the puncture is close to the sidewall, it;s not pluggable.
  • If you can take care of a tire repair yourself, you'll be back on the road MUCH faster than waiting for someone else to arrive.
  • had a born free years back, no spare, bought a new tire to match the others ,had a vinyl cover made and fastened it on top the rv. p.s never had to use it.

a good guess IMHO. and they might bring out a 15 year old slightly off sized one and you would have to pay a premium for it. that is why you should carry at least an unmounted spare.

  • Not sure what GS would say about bringing out a new tire or using your patch kit.... however I would not give it much thought. Just go have some fun and deal with contingencies when presented.
  • I cant answer your question about Good Sam but of my four or so tire issues i have had on my TT none would of been repairable by a patch kit. I have read that sometimes it takes a while for them to show up and on top of that they have to head back and get a tire plus i imagine you might pay a premium but i'm just guessing on the later.
  • We carry a spare and have had GS come and change it but I also carry a repair kit and compressor just in case they can't or won't come out. Also works on the car and maybe one of our Harley's.
