Not the best not the worst, I'll keep it
Yesterday was just one of those days.:E In the morning I hit a piece of wood and tore the front tire on the Saturn. Called Good Sam, and the nice lady said after a brief hold that service would be out in 60 to 90 minutes. Bummer, I'm in LA and there are tow trucks all over the place, 90 minutes, really. So I did something I haven't done in 40 years, I changed the tire myself. When finished I cancelled the call. A few minutes later the really nice tow truck guy called and said he couldn't spot the car, I explained I canceled the call and apologized, he said he never received the cancel, but that was not uncommon (with any service). So it comes down to, GS did the job, I was just impatient. But I do question the call gals response of 90 minutes.
It goes on::E Later the same day a friend gets into a car accident. Everyone is OK. But his car needs to be towed. He has AAA and a tow truck is called for by the Police. Again in Los Angeles, it takes about 45 minutes for the flat tow to arrive, the PD has left and the friend was taken to ER for a check up by his son. The really nice tow truck driver was stuck by policy. He could not tow unless the cardholder was present, even with a police report. AAA policy is you must be present or the car can only be towed to impound $$$$$.
We pushed the car (a Smart Car) to the curb and decided to leave it for the family to handle later.
The moral: Emergency Roadside Service (ERS) is just that, for emergencies, call one number and eventually you get assistance. Great when you can't help yourself, or when in an accident, you can't help yourself. Perhaps many of the complaints are because we are impatient or expect someone who is just an employee to risk their job and act out of policy.
I will renew my Good Sam ERS in June, and with luck, I will never need it.
Just my opinion on an often noted subject.
