If it says you have to return it I would do so immediately if you mail it it should be with a tracking number. Do not take anybodies word that is not in the contract. You have a written contract and are bound by its terms. If things go south then the contract will govern. Someone saying the problem will be taken care of is not going to cut it if you go to court. To me it seems as if you are trying to get by without expending any effort. I hope it works out for you.
