Rate Increase For No Reason

Have had GS National General for the past 3 years, rates stayed the same for all 3 years.
Got my new policy notice yesterday, with a rate increase of $80.00. Same coverage, and I haven't had a claim at all.
Called GS and NG and was told it was an across the board rate increase and there was nothing they could do.
Told them bye-bye and checked Progressive. Got a policy with upgrade in certain coverages, and for $84.00 a year less than my original GS rate.
Original GS/NG rate....$568.00
New GS/NG rate.........$648.00
Progressive rate.......$484.00
Just wondering if any others have received a "suprise" from National General?

  • No one should be surprised when the insurance rates go up as it happens most years with most companies.
I originally had Progressive. Just wait till you see how much they go up next year.
  • Grumpy - $80 increase - over 4 years with the new year included = $20 a year. I don't think that is out of line with the cost of everything going up. It is always good to shop around. I hope you checked to see how your new company pays claims!
  • Just remember insurance is only as good as how well they pay claims. I'm not sure about Arab insurance, but when I was getting some work done on my car, the body shop owner told me Progressive was one of the worst in paying claims.
  • Welcome to the reality of 'What the Traffic Will Bear'!!
In the words of a song I remember:
"My Mamma Told Me to Shop Around!!"
  • Yes, I got a $200 year increase. My insurance is National, but not through GS.
