I have been camping in Denali Natl Park for the last 6 days so I have been out of touch and could not respond here.
It seems to me that posing a simple question about the logo should not have engendered such vitriol. Why?
Since none of you know me nor have most of you read the entire body of my posts you don't realize that I am in fact not such a big critic of GSE. In fact one of my last posts was to praise a CW store.
As for the logo the reason I posted this is the overtly religious nature of it and its truly dated appearance as another poster pointed out.
The Logo itself does not Offend me. But as a businessman and someone who has spent a good deal of my career consulting with business on best practices of management and corporate identity I find this logo a complete anachronism that may speak well to a certain part of the population but actually is excluding in it's iconography most of the rest.
Let me be clear This is not a religious issue. But only one of the appropriateness of the logo and whether or not a BETTER one wouldn't serve the company better with all consumers not just a particular group.
I would also remind the admin who made such pointed and obviously heated remarks here to me that According to Marcus Lemonis "Any part of GSE is up for criticism on this forum" and "No post will be deleted for doing so". That has been written more than once here.
I also had nothing to do with Putting the Logo on my screen name here in this forum. But I saw no reason to delete it either.
The job of a good Logo is to engender a feeling of INCLUSIVENESS, instill confidence, communicate an Idea or a picture of the mind about what a company is. And maybe most importantly it should not offend.
I would argue that the good Sam Logo Fails at most of these tests and is in need of updating and replacement.
And let me clarify for those who never read my previous posts because they were deleted: They were NOT about religion. I did quote from the Good Sam Web page about the history of the Logo and I did explain it's iconography and state why I thought it inappropriate.
I also called for a Poll of folks and what they thought about the logo and what if anything they might change it for.
I know to the Admin and a moderator that was dangerous talk indeed. but it was really a viable question and appropriate for this site and within the bounds of what a post can be. I was very careful in my wording.
And as a matter of course what cost CIVILITY? Nothing. Yet when I asked politely why the posts were deleted I received NO answer. And as you can see from the post above the admin obviously has strong feelings about me although he has never met me and I have never given Him/Her any reason to dislike me.
I also find it amusing that so many just do not see the issue here. Politeness hurts no one and the Logo can be seen as exclusive to some and possibly off putting to others. Maybe even a bit offensive to a few. So why persist with it?
I come at this from a business background, not a religious one. But in the posts above I see very little of what the Good Sam Logo actually represents from those who defend it so vociferously.
