Well the problem was not the gauge. The truck ran fine for days until yesterday when it died again just4 blocks from the last spot. I called GSRA again and they took my info, the truck arrived 45 minutes later and got me home for a mere 18 bucks. While waiting I diagnosed the issue and it was a bad fuel pump, which I changed once home and was good to go. This happened at 5pm rush hour and still just a small wait.
