RV Insurance Options

Hello,

I did not renew my rv insurance back in May due to job situation. It was not through Good Sam, although I do have their road-side assistance. I paid $240 a year cover my 5th wheel, and over the years, never had an issue when I needed to use it.

Now, I'm looking for a good company to start new coverage for approx the same costs. I was also wondering if there are rv insurance companies where you pay for the time when you're out rving. So, if we're only out 4 months out of the year,is it possible to have coverage for just that amount of time. I seem to recall seeing a commercial or advertisement in a magazine.

Thoughts, suggestions are appreciated...tks.

  • Make sure they offer the coverage you need. Do they cover personal property in the RV or do you have to turn in a homeowners claim with a separate deductible? How about liability around the campsite? Are permanent attachments like awnings covered at replacement cost or are they depreciated?

  • Thanks all for your input! I never even thought about State Farm, which I use for our autos, but will check on competitive pricing.

    thanks...
  • ttharisons,

Some companies factor in the knowledge that RV'ers only use the RV a limited amount of time during the year. Others will provide the ability to "put it in storage" and reduce your premium. This also reduces coverage during this time. Give Good Sam Insurance Agency a call and we can select a company based on your coverage need and usage. We use National General, Safeco, Progressive and Foremost.

  • We just made the choice yesterday after much searching. We got notice that our Nationwide insurance was no longer available as they were dropping the agency selling it. We ended up FMCA and got a great rate(better than the old one) along with better coverage. Funny thing is it is still with Nationwide. They are one of the agencies that were not dropped! Will not be renewing our Good Sam and going with FMCA as they have much better services. We have friends that use FMCA and have had nothing but good words for them and their service.
    Bye Bye Good Sam!
  • I pay roughly 150 a year for mine tacked onto my auto insurance through State Farm. I get all the multi-policy discounts too and low deductible.
  • Typical RV insurance you only pay for part time use, but are covered 24/7/365. RV insurance is really inexpensive based on its cost.
  • Check with your auto carrier, There are usually multi unit discounts available, if not Progressive is a possibility.
