Terrible Experience

I had a blowout on Sunday on the I-10 Basin bridge in Louisiana which is a very busy section of interstate. There is no room and too dangerous to change the tire on the bridge so the company talking to Good Sam's operator wanted to tow me off of the bridge to change the tire. Good Sam would not pay for it because it was too expensive. The rate was going to be $285/hr with a 3 hour minimum. I've read all of the information as part of my membership and see nowhere that says there is a maximum rate they will allow. The operator said "can't you just limp along to the next exit?" After 45 minutes of discussion with her I drove on the shoulder 2 miles and got to an exit and changed the flat myself and then noticed that I picked up a nail in a different tire because of having to drive on the shoulder. I only carry 1 spare so I had to call Good Sam back and get someone to come repair the leaking tire from the nail. It took 4 hours for them to come fix the tire. Good Sam never called back to check on me from the first incident but a different operator finally got me fixed up on the second incident. There was also a cost of $91 to me for the guy to plug and patch a tire and I'm not exactly sure why that was charged either. I will be looking elsewhere for roadside assistance as this is not acceptable to be stranded on the side of the road with 4 kids and a dog with no help at all and told to just limp off myself.

  • GS seems to have slipped down hill of late, or have ship their services off shore.
I renewed my RV road side assistance over the phone back in May ,still have not got my new card yet,
made a mistake of getting a Camping World membership at the same time,CW card was in my mailbox within days
have made calls to GS customer service, just get stock answer,it,s on it way
  • Make sure to read ALL the benefits and differences between the top level club memberships for AAA, GS, and Coachnet. There are some limitations to Coachnet that you may run into unexpectedly as well. And make sure to scour the Internet. We read the GSRS horror stories here because this forum is owned by the same company. There are an equal number of horror stories on all 3 services. I've had my own bad experience with AAA.
  • SIGH.

I had a horrible experience with AAA motorhome service the very first time I used it.....or tried to use it.

Someone I trust said GS was much better.
This doesn't sound a lot different that my experience with AAA so Coach Net might get my business next year.

Way WAY too many US companies these days are more worried about marketing than they are about service. The number of junk mails I get from CW/GS pretty much shows that they are this way too.

In my case, the tire problem was with one of a dual pair and it was no problem to "limp" to an exit......and then eventually to a nearby truck tire store. I was lucky that both were nearby.
  • GSRA -
As a long time GSRA member, these reports of less than positive service from Good Sam is becoming alarming. The Marcus Rapid Response staff responses do not explain what went wrong in their GSRA system, i.e. individual staff errors, poor training, which parts of the country get the most complaints etc etc. More importantly, what steps or how does Good Sam remediate these issues to avoid them in the future??
  • This kind of treatment is so wrong. You would expect good service from GS but apparently not.

I just changed to Coach-Net because of all the horror stories I have heard about Good Sam Roadside Assistance.

I have not had to use GSRA services but decided it was time to change.

I guess Marcus needs to reevaluate his Company and get it working like it should be.
