The Giant Marketing Monster

Rant On

Dear Marcus,

While I appreciate many things about being a Lifetime GS member, being inundated with BS marketing mailers is definitely not one of them.

Today I received My 2013 "Medical Advisory" and "Document Folder". This BS is a weak attempt at selling a cancer insurance policy. No Thanks. How about this Marcus, Just have all your various product offerings and information on your web site and let me choose what I want to take part in. I'd bet if Good Sam stopped all the mail soliciting they do the Postal Service would fold for sure. Maybe that's not a bad thing.

Good Sam has evolved from something that actually was a club in the beginning to nothing more that a giant marketing machine that tries to milk every last dime they can out of their "members".

  • A few years ago, I logged into my GS account, sent an email requesting the mailings stop due to using a commercial mail forwarding service.

Haven't received the junk mail since. May have to refresh their memory if start receiving it again.

I received an email response to my request at the time. It worked for me.

Sometimes emailing, calling, talking and requesting to be removed from a mailing list can work.

It worked for me. Free enterprise is like Freedom, it isn't!

It's American. At least for a little longer, maybe!
  • As I do understand the OP, I have to think why nobody ever says anything about the amount of junk mail AARP (if you belong) sends out every month. Again look at it and either throw it or open your choice.
  • I like to put the mailers in my shedder. Then when the 49'er or the Giants win the Super Bowl or the World Series, I have confetti to throw around.

Those of you who live where there are no champion teams (Dallas, Denver, Jets, LA etc.) probably won't have the same incentive as I do.

Just to state the obvious, I'm having fun with you all.

    Have a nice day.

  • Use the enclosed envelope and send it back to them. It may take awhile but they might get the hint....
  • While I received the same thing and every once in a while receive other marketing items, I don't fin myself "inundated" with them. I look to see if what it is. If i'm interested, I read it. If not I throw it away with all the other junk mail that we receive daily. 9 times out of 10, you can tell what something is by the outside envelope.

TIP: Save that CW/GS junk mail and use as a fire starter the next time you go camping. :)
