Tire change rip-off

After sixteen years of membership I had the unfortunate need for roadside assistance. It appeared that we ran over something on roadway that caused a blow-out on a inside dual tire size 265-75 x 22.5. We limped it into a campground for three days so there was no big rush. Called for assistance and informed them of that and we needed someone that was capable of changing a tire of that size and that I had a tire with me that was not mounted on a rim. At that time I was informed that there would be a automatic 150.00 charge for that. I then stated that I thought that was a bit exorbitant pricing and that I would look around the area I was in for someone local. I was told good luck with that and was hung up on. One call later, was referred to a company in another town 20 miles away that would come out at my convenience. Invoice: dismount/mount 30.00, service call 74.00, tire disposal 10.00 114.00 plus tip!! Total time of service on site was 35 mins. Isn't the insurance business great and helpful when you need it?

  • Either way sounds fair to me. If you are willing and able to do the legwork you will tend to save money. Same for all things not just tires. Good on you for saving $34.

I only insure the big stuff that would cause a payout well over $5,000. This $150 stuff is just pocket money.
  • So they wanted to charge you $150.00 because you had your own unmounted spare and then any additional charges the tire service people wanted to tack on too? Or just a straight $150.00 fee and nothing more?

Sounds like I'm in the wrong business...
