Travel from Louisiana to Az

Plan to travel I-10 from Louisiana to Phoenix end of November. With all the rain and flooding is this a good idea? Is there a alternate to consider. Has anyone traveled this route recently, especially Houston?

  • About the only problem we have is flash flooding during & immediately after a heavy downpour. Other than that the only problem you should have is the traffic on I-10. Choose your time; either mid-morning or mid-afternoon weekdays, or Sat or Sunday, if you need to avoid heavy traffic.
  • While driving through Houston, just close your eyes, like the other drivers do, and go. Good Luck
  • I would check the weather a few days in advance as you go. You can check for closures on each state's DOT site. Usually the water runs off quickly and if there is any flooding it won't last long. These states are used to it. They will have alternate routes available. I don't like driving through Houston. There are routes around Houston on this forum if you need it.
